Much of the UK has been blanketed in heavy snow this winter January too has experienced very low temperatures. Forecasters have predicted that the UK is likely to see its coldest winter in 30 years.

The Met Office has issued a record number of  alerts through the period which have been helping to keep people abreast of the latest cold spats due to reach us.

Everyone has been affected by the conditions including road users, some of whom have spent long nights in their cars as the conditions close in and the vehicles simply cannot move. Air travelers have borne more than their fair share of the disruptions as many of the UK’s principal airports have been forced to abandon their schedules leaving holiday makers and business travelers in chaos.

Forecasters say that the cold snap, which began in mid-December, is the longest since 1981. And they have warned there is currently no real end in sight. Around the country temperatures plummeted to record lows to minus 18C at Altnaharra in northern Scotland and minus 17C in Worcester.
